GRAPHIC NOVEL READING CLUB
Join us on the second Thursday of every month for Portland's first Graphic Novel Reading Club! We meet at Bridge City Comics at 7pm (directions). Bring a chair and something to drink, if you'd like!
The very first Graphic Novel Reading Club (GNRC) was held on October 27, 2005 and we've been doing it every month since. It's a great opportunity to talk in-depth about comics and graphic novels. Every session, we discuss a book that we've previously chosen. We tend to pick new books two months out in order to give people time to buy, borrow or get them from the library so that they may be thoroughly read and digested for that book's session.
We have a wide range of people join us every month for the GNRC; Male, female, young (well, 21+), old, those who have read comics for years and those folks brand new to it! We also read books from every genre so there's always something new and interesting to discuss. It's not just the latest super-hero exploits! The books we've read include mysteries, science fiction, autobiographical, fiction, historical and much more.

SELECTION FOR February 11, 2010
THE CHILL HC
It's summer in New York, but a "chill" has settled over the city - a serial killer is on the loose, and the ritualized murders are becoming increasingly sadistic. The NYPD and the FBI have a suspect: a gorgeous young woman named Arlana. The only problem is that every witness provides a different description of her. None of it makes any sense to anyone except Martin Cleary, a beaten-down Irish cop from Boston with a whopper of a secret in his past - and a past that may go back a century or two . . .

SELECTION FOR March 11, 2010
45 GN
Having decided to forego the test that would determine whether his unborn child is carrying the all-important "Super-S" gene, which differentiates the genetic makeup of a superhero from that of a normal person, journalist James Stanley sets out on a quest to interview forty-five super-powered individuals in the hope that their experiences may better prepare him for the birth of a child that is potentially gifted with extraordinary abilities. Each page illustrated by a different artist, featuring the work of Liam Sharp, Jock, Sean Philips, Randy Green, Charlie Adlard and Dan Brereton, to name but a few of the 45 contributors.
